Akhal-Teke Horses

The Akhal-Teke is Turkmenistan’s beloved horse, a national treasure. Their horses are their greatest pride… as well as the foundation of their entire culture. From the past to the present, Turkmen equestrianism is widely displayed in artwork, architecture, music… and even their currency!

Every year in Ashgabat competitions are held of the Akhal-Teke horse in art. The categories are: Paintings, Statues, Carpets, and Horse jewelry (see the Traditional Tack page)

The Jockey of Artemision, Hellenistic bronze statue of a boy riding a horse

The Jockey of Artemision

The Jockey of Artemision is a large Hellenistic bronze statue of a young boy riding a horse, dated to c.140 BC but possibly as early as 200BC. It is a rare surviving original bronze statue from Ancient Greece, and is currently located at the National Archaeological Museum, Athens.
