ATAA/VNIIK Dual Horse Registration through the Akhal-Teke Association of America
As of October 1, 2019, the Akhal-Teke Association of America (ATAA) is the official liaison to VNIIK (closed Russian Studbook) and facilitates all purebred Akhal-Teke and Akhal-Teke part bred registrations on behalf of North American Akhal-Teke horse owners and/or ATAA members.
The ATAA provides an ATAA registration number and certificate upon receipt of a completed registration package and DNA confirmation of parentage. At a later date, dependent on VNIIK’s schedule, owners will receive their official VNIIK closed studbook registration papers. Purebred Akhal-Teke horses will be recognized as dual registered. Akhal-Teke crosses may be either ATAA/VNIIK registered OR ATAA registered only (horses must be at least ATAA registered to compete for any ATAA Awards or Incentive Fund Program).
In light of VNIIK rule changes in 2019, the ATAA will no longer offer ATAA-only registration to purebred Akhal-Teke owners. VNIIK will now only accept foal applications of VNIIK registered parents. To avoid the devastating potential loss of purebred horses in the limited gene pool, please consider registering in the closed studbook (VNIIK) for the benefit of the Akhal-Teke horse population.
